The Cost of Refrigerated Transport in the UAE: What Affects Pricing
August 13, 2026 · 2 min read
Refrigerated transport pricing can look inconsistent from the outside — two seemingly similar rentals can carry noticeably different rates. Here is what actually drives that difference.
Vehicle size and temperature range
Larger vehicles and freezer units (-18°C to -22°C) generally cost more than smaller chiller vans (+2°C to +8°C), since they require stronger cooling equipment, more insulation, and higher fuel consumption to maintain a lower target range, especially through UAE summer heat.
With driver vs without
Renting with a cold-chain-trained driver included typically costs more per day than self-drive rental, since you are paying for driver time and route planning, not only vehicle use. Self-drive rental generally offers the lowest daily rate but requires a valid UAE licence and a deposit.
Rental duration
Daily rates are highest per day; weekly and especially monthly rental plans offer meaningfully better value for businesses with ongoing or predictable transport needs. If your refrigerated transport need is recurring rather than occasional, a longer-term plan is almost always the more economical choice.
Route and distance
Single-city deliveries typically cost less than multi-emirate routes, given the additional distance, fuel, and driver time involved in covering Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates in one trip.
Urgency
Same-day and short-notice bookings can carry a premium over scheduled bookings made in advance, since they require immediate fleet availability rather than planned allocation.
Getting an accurate quote
Because so many factors affect pricing, the most accurate way to understand your cost is a direct quote based on your specific vehicle type, route, duration, and driver preference — rather than a generic published rate.
